The Basics of Stock Investing

You will need to spend some time studying and learning before you start devoting more time to actually investing and before even buy a stock. I’m not saying you have to go take a bunch of college courses. You just need to learn what you can which includes the basics.

And exactly what basics must you learn? To start, you need to learn all about the stock market itself. Know what it is and how it works. Also, you need to learn it’s details including what a market is and what stocks are.

If you need to know what a stock is, then you are going to need to know what a corporation is and what it means for a corporation to go public. This is all the core information and builds up.

Before investing you will also need to learn all about stock research and how to do it. This will mean learning to read financial statements, analyze stock values against stock indexes, follow charts, and calculate and analyze ratios.

You’re also going to need to learn how and when to buy stocks. Basically you need to buy low and sell high. This is how you get capital gains. There is no way to time the markets, but you should be able to get a general idea of when a good time to buy a particular stock is.

If you want to find this information, you’re going to need to do a lot of reading and studying. I haven’t provided the answer to these questions here because it is just too much information for one article. You will need to consult many books and publications to learn what you need to know.

This isn’t everything you will need to know. I have just included the basics, the bare minimum. Over time you will learn a lot more. You will find yourself getting carried away at times and learning more and more. You will read book after book and may even subscribe to a few financial magazines. Don’t give up, keep plugging away and start investing to increase your wealth.
